When you know your WHY, your what becomes more impactful because you are walking towards or in your purpose.
~ Michael Jr.
We humans love to believe that our decisions come from careful analysis, rooted in the logic-oriented part of our brain known as the prefrontal cortex. But science demonstrates that this is not how it works. Our decisions are actually rooted in the part of our brain that, from an evolutionary perspective, is much older than the prefrontal cortex: the limbic brain. This is the part of our brain that governs feelings and emotions. In effect, our decisions are based on how we feel; we then back up those decisions with rational analysis, and pat ourselves on the back for making such “wise” choices.
The challenge we face in understanding our (or others’) decisions is that the limbic brain does not control our speech and language. This is why it can be difficult at times to express how you feel or why you made the decision you just made. It’s also the reason greeting card companies can charge exorbitant prices for pieces of paper that put our feelings into words: they’ve mastered the ability to articulate – in words and pictures – feelings and emotions that reside in the limbic brain.
Understanding your own limbic brain can help you determine where you are more likely to be highly successful, where you can make decisions with great confidence, and where you will perform in a manner that seems to come naturally.
But my words can only go so far. To see the power of knowing your Why, check out this short video. Notice the change that occurs in the person who’s featured in the clip, as well as the difference in how the audience responds.
I invite each of my clients to discover their “WHY Operating System” or “WHY.os” using The WHY Institute’s online tool. It takes less than 15 minutes, is exceptionally accurate, and allows us to talk about opportunities and potential barriers to the individual’s success and sense of fulfillment that would otherwise take hours to identify.
If you’d like to discover your own WHY.os and talk about what it might mean for your personal or professional journey, click on the link below and book a no obligation conversation. During that initial meeting, I’ll send you a link to discover your WHY.os for free. If you prefer to do this on your own, head over to The WHY Institute’s website and discover your WHY.os for just $97. You can then book a complimentary, no-obligation conversation with me to review your results.
Either way, knowing your WHY.os will significantly help you navigate your path in business and in life.
