How do you distinguish between the voice of your True Self and the endless chatter of your mind?
For most of us, the mind is a noisy place. It’s filled with inherited opinions, cultural programming, fears, expectations, and a thousand “shoulds.” Amidst all that noise, how can we know what’s true?
The answer begins with learning to listen differently. The voice of the True Self doesn’t scream. It whispers. It doesn’t argue or justify—it simply is. You can recognize it not by volume, but by how it feels: calm, grounded, free from urgency. It carries a quiet authority.
In contrast, the false self (what I call the FLAB: Fears, Labels, Attachments, and Beliefs) tends to be reactive, defensive, anxious. It’s obsessed with managing impressions and controlling outcomes. When that’s the voice leading your life, even your best efforts can leave you feeling exhausted and unfulfilled.
If you want to live more authentically—if you want to answer a confident “Yes!” to Life Question #1—then learning to distinguish these voices is essential.
Try This: Spend five quiet minutes today noticing your thoughts. Ask yourself, “Which of these come from peace, and which come from fear?” Let that be your guide.
