Lessons from The Road 39: Growing Pains are Not a Problem

We’ve been taught to avoid pain. As children, we’re soothed when we cry. As adults, we’re told to stay positive, to keep our heads up, to just be grateful. But growth doesn’t come without discomfort. In fact, discomfort is often a signal that something important is shifting.

This is true in every domain of life: the body gets stronger by being pushed, hearts grow deeper through vulnerability, and wisdom emerges from struggle.

If you’re asking Life Question #1, “Am I living authentically, from my True Self?” you may find that the answer feels elusive at times. That’s okay. It’s often the discomfort, the internal friction, that points us toward what no longer fits. Like shoes we’ve outgrown.

Growth can be painful, yes. But it is also a sign of life. Don’t be afraid of the ache. It may be your True Self stretching into more space.

Your Challenge This Week: Think of an area where you feel uncomfortable right now. Ask: Could this be growing pain? What would it mean to honor the discomfort rather than resist it?
