Lessons from The Road 19: Virtual Reality

In a recent episode of The Michael Singer Podcast, host Michael Singer talked about shakti—the raw, creative force that is life energy itself. Shakti isn’t something we have to chase or earn. It’s already and forever present; it animates every thought, fuels every feeling, and moves through every breath.

Unfortunately, we lose touch with shakti. As we take on our personal identity, we cover it over with our F.L.A.B. (our learned Fears, Labels, Attachments, and Beliefs), to the point that our made-up version of ourselves and our F.L.A.B. – covered view of the world become our identity. We no longer realize that we’ve created VR googles that skew everything we think, do, and experience, and we can’t recall how to pull the googles off.

But shakti is still there, waiting to be rediscovered.

So how do we do that? How might we become reacquainted with the eternal, unconditional life energy that has the power to lift us to greater and greater levels of peace and vitality?

Singer suggests that when we stop resisting life – when we stop clinging to what we like and pushing away what we don’t – shakti flows freely. And when it flows freely, something amazing happens: we wake up.

This isn’t simply a spiritual practice – it’s a profoundly practical one. When you get out of your own way and let energy flow, you naturally begin to say “Yes!” to the questions that matter most:

Am I Living Authentically?

The stories we tell ourselves, including who we should be, what success looks like, what others expect, are all part of the virtual reality Singer describes. But the real you is not those stories. The real you is the one watching. Tuning your mental, spiritual, and psychological frequency to shakti helps you return to that place of presence, where action is no longer driven by fear, comparison, or approval, but by clarity, courage, and truth.

Am I Cultivating Meaningful Relationships?

When your energy is flowing, you stop clinging and controlling. You start listening. You begin to love without needing, to support without judging. Shakti allows you to meet others not from your past, not from your pain, but from presence. And presence is the birthplace of meaningful connection.

Am I Making the World a Little Better?

The freer your energy, the clearer your vision. You’re no longer weighed down by inner clutter. You begin to see what needs doing – not to fix or prove yourself, but because it naturally flows from your inner clarity. You help not to save, but to serve. You lead not to control, but to uplift.

Your Challenge This Week:

For five minutes each day, pause. Don’t try to think differently. Just feel. What’s alive in you right now? That subtle hum, that inner pulse – that’s shakti. The more you learn to feel it, the more you’ll trust it. And the more you trust it, the more freely you’ll live.
